We are currently seeking a qualified Refractory Supervisor supporting our contract at a customer steel mill located near Mobile, Alabama.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Refractory Supervisor is responsible to coordinate and supervise the day to day activities of the services contract. The position functions as a representative of Magnesita business in the customer's plant and interactions with the customer's employees must be professional.

  • Practice Safety in supervision focusing on day to day activities, attend safety meetings and be an active participant with the customers' safety team.
  • Prioritize the equipment construction and ensure proper staffing to meet melt shop needs.
  • Supervision of the hourly Magnesita personnel, including training, coaching and development.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with our customers' management team.
  • Detailed reporting and tracking of build times, delays, RE %, scrap rate, etc.
  • Create and/or maintain all SOP guidelines to maintain ISO compliance.
  • Repair refractory equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure PM's are completed on a regularly scheduled basis for all refractory equipment.
  • Document AOD and/or Ladle tear out profiles. Populate database with results.
  • Ensure the safety, quality and productivity of all refractory department goals and standards.

Requirements:

  • Engineering degree desirable but not required
  • Project management, supervisory experience,  steelmaking and/or steel plate experience in association with refractory usage is preferred
  • Leadership skills required to manage Magnesita workforce
  • Full understanding of safety rules and regulations pertaining to large equipment, overhead cranes and molten metal PPE requirements
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Professional communication skills essential
  • Knowledge of refractory materials, application, installation standards is helpful. Mechanically inclined very desirable.
  • The employee must have a valid driver's license and personal transportation to and from the worksite. Magnesita and its customers' have a zero tolerance policy for drug and alcohol usage.  All representatives will be subject to drug and alcohol testing.  All customer safety rules must be followed without exception.
